Comprehensive PrEP Services for HIV Prevention at Peach Tree Health

Let’s Talk About PrEP!

PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis. It is a medication that helps prevent HIV. Taken as a once-a-day pill, PrEP is very effective. When taken as prescribed, it can reduce the risk of getting HIV by 70% to 99%. This means that most people who take PrEP every day will not get HIV, even if they are exposed to it.

HIV is mainly spread through sexual contact and by sharing needles during drug use. Here are some factors that may increase your risk of HIV:

– Having anal or vaginal sex without a condom

– Having a sexually transmitted infection (STI)

– Using drugs or alcohol in a harmful way during sexual activity

– Sharing needles, syringes, or other equipment for injecting drugs

To start PrEP, you need to be HIV-negative. Peach Tree Health offers free HIV testing. Even if you think you are not at high risk, knowing your status is always a good idea.
